Lanna & David

Owners of My Quilt Shoppe. Both Lanna and David have been in sales their entire careers. They are natives of Florida and relocated to North Carolina after they experienced Hurricane Andrew first hand. They lost their electrical supply business in Andrew and their home was severly damaged. Their lives had been torn apart and Lanna says that her quilting and Bernina 1630 saved her sanity during those days. David has been certified by both Pfaff and Bernina to enable him to have the best service department in Western North Carolina. Lanna keeps up to date on all of the new Pfaff and Bernina machines and software so she can teach new owners what they need to know to get started enjoying their new best friend. Lanna says they spent the first 20 years of their marriage selling electrical supplies and will spend the next 20 years of marriage selling sewing machines and quilting supplies!

Marianne Cagle
I am a late bloomer as far as quilting is concerned. I worked in Marketing at General Electric for thirty -seven years and had the opportunity to retire early. I wanted to get into quilting in my retirement years and this is something I have been able to do in MY QUILT SHOPPE. I have been with Lanna and David since day one. There are so many QUILTERS that I come into contact with in the shop that are willing to share their expertise and advise . It is a great way to enjoy something that you love. My husband and I have five grandchildren and another on the way. As all of you know this is one of the greatest pleasures of life. We also have a house on the lake and we spend a lot of time there. We enjoy lots of good times there with family and friends. We are very involved in our church activities.
Carol Kellogg
Carols sewing hobby started during high school with a home economics class in1957. From that time forward she made all her own curtains and other household items, made a Spring coat in a tailoring class, and made clothing for her 3 children when they were small. In 1979, Carols friend called and said she’d learned how to do something new and Carol should come see it. She did! She showed Carol how to do it (basically 1” hexagons sewn together) Grandmother’s flower garden. Carol went home and made a pillow. A few weeks later she and her friend decided to take a quilt class with togetherand both decided to make a Christmas quilt. They hand pieced all the blocks and then took a “put it together” class to learn the rest. Carol was on her way. She hand-pieced and hand quilted all her quilts (including a Grandmother’s Flower Garden) until she took a machine-piecing class in 1994. Carol sews/quilts every day and always has more than one project going at a time. She love country-style quilts, including primitives. Carol has given each of her 6 grandkids more than one quilt and sends little surprises to them regularly. Carol teaches The Thimbleberries Club and Primitive Clubs.
Vivian Pemple
Vivian has been quilting since the mid 1980's and started out piecing and quilting by hand. She like traditional and scrappy quilts. Vivian enjoys working with fabric and putting colors and fabrics together.
Barbara Goodman - Heads up the Machine Team
Engaged in sewing, knitting and traditional forms of quilting over most of her adult life, Barbara finds quilting to be the most addictive. Quilting offers the most challenges and rewards while offering relaxation.
Mg Tyda
My husband, George, and I moved to Flat Rock 5 years ago. One of my first stops was My Quilt Shoppe where I upgraded my sewing machine to a Pfaff after piecing quilts on an old Feather Weight. I prefer machine piecing to hand piecing and continue to learn machine embroidery. Although we travel frequently, I love getting back to the mountains for a "shoppe" fix.
Judy Broussard
Her first encounter with a needle and thread was at age 13 in a junior high sewing class. After she sewed her fabric to the clothes she was wearing she gave up on stitchery until she found MY QUILT SHOPPE. Lanna and David sold Judy her first machine and within six months she graduated to the PFAFF quilter. Along with great teachers such as VELMA BEARDSLEY and GEN GRUNDY, the girl went wild and had to go to work at the SHOPPE to support her fabric habit. Now, there's just no stopping her!

Mary Meyers - Heads up Fabric Team
It seems to me like I have always been sewing! I started out by sewing my doll's clothes. At age 19 I purchased my first sewing machine ( Bernina) :-) with my first paycheck from teaching school. With it I have been able to clothe my family of 3 children, and decorate the several parsonages in which we have lived during our 45+ years of ministry. I became interested in quilting when we lived in Lebanon, PA (Amish country). I would see the gorgeous Amish quilts hanging in the mall windows and I was hooked. I have completed 2 hand quilted, appliqued quilts and am currently working on the 3rd one, (one for each child). In between I have made several patchwork quilts on the sewing machine as well. Working at MQS is a wonderful therapy for me because I get to feel the fabrics, learn lots of new techniques, work with wonderful people and pass along my knowledge to some of the greatest customers in the Carolinas.
Dot Highter
Retired on a Friday in 2007 and was here in my new home two days later. A born & bred New Englander I needed to leave the harsh winters but keep the change of seasons and the mountains which Hendersonville has in abundance. Declare myself to be a true Fiber Addict and now can indulge without an outside profession interferring (actually loved being a social worker but was spread thin).
Past endeavors include designing and sewing; dolls, wearable art, quilting, fabric, jewelry. Current favorites are; felting (primarily wet felting vessels but also needle felting), wall hangings, purses(from fabric salvaged from damaged quilts and other vintage fabrics) and any fabric recycling project I can think of. Working at My Quilt Shoppe feeds my fiber addiction and allows me to spend time with people of like mind which keeps my creative juices flowing.
Nancy George
Nancy is married with two grown children with grandchildren on the way! Nancy's husband loves to work with wood and she loves to quilt and paint. Oscar, a lively little daschund puppy, is the newest addition to their home. Nancy and her husband have returned to Hendersonville to retire as Nancy says "in God's country" after living in the St. Louis area for 10 years. Nancy is a talented lady and My Quilt Shoppe is enjoying her many talents.
